Should you buy a drink package on Royal Caribbean?

I just completed my first cruise with an alcoholic drink package on Royal Caribbean.  I chose the Deluxe Beverage Package which included unlimited cocktails, beer, wine, non-alcoholic drinks, soda, premium coffee (starbucks style drinks!), and bottled water.  My specific cruise offered a discount on the drink package before my cruise for a limited time at 30% off.  At this price, I have to say the drink package, although still a luxury, was something I would do again. Here are my overall thoughts:

  • If you will be drinking cocktails, not just beer and wine, you might be able to get your money’s worth even if you are not a big drinker.  With cocktails ringing up at least $12, you could come out ahead.
  • Even as a non-drinker, the cocktails can be ordered without alcohol and the premium coffee drinks are a huge perk.  We also really enjoyed grabbing bottled water for our cabin or to bring ashore.
  • Each Deluxe Beverage Package comes with an insulated cup to refill with soda at any bar or soda refill station.
  • Even with all of the aforementioned perks, the ease and peace of mind of not having to pay for each and every drink was something that really added to our vacation.  Just simply scan your seapass card and you have your drink!

How right you are. I would definitely echo your statement about peace of mind. My husband and I purchased a drink package on our last cruise to celebrate our honeymoon. We were very pleased. In addition to not having to worry about an outlandish bill if we celebrated too much, we were also please about the variety of what we were able to have and the convenience of being able to get a drink pretty much anywhere on the ship.

While we too got a discount on the package, I would do it again on a future trip without a second thought. It’s worth it.
